Tomorrow’s World of Work: Opportunity Knocks!
Date: Wednesday 29th September 2010
Time: 12:30pm - 5:30pm
Location: Moncur Suite, St James’ Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4ST view map
The world of work in 20 years time is going to be a very different place.
Earlier this year the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills unveiled a list of 20 future professions in a paper entitled The Shape of Jobs to Come. We will be joined by Rohit Talwar, the creator and CEO of the research company who compiled the list. Rohit believes that in twenty years time most jobs as we know them will not exist and he will discuss the thought provoking ‘tomorrow's trades' such as waste-data handlers, quarantine enforcers and old age wellness managers.
The ageing population will have an effect on working practices as employees want to work past retirement age but also want flexible working. A representative from NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts - an independent body with a mission to make the UK more innovative - will discuss the work they are doing with people in their 50s, employers and third sector organisations to experiment with new and flexible work patterns and lifestyle choices that enable the over 50s to continue to contribute to the economy and society.NESTA will also talk about their recent research carried out with SAGA on retirement ages. We will then hear from Alistair Smith, Jacksons Law Firm, who will cover the legal implications of the new retirement age.
Rounding up the event will be Andy Owen, Marketing Consultant, who will discuss "How to communicate effectively with mature customers". Over 50s hold 75% of wealth in EU but are only a target for 10% of marketing spend. This growing market provides huge opportunities and should not be ignored.
So join us in September to hear what opportunities knock!
